Byron Gates

The Gates Group pursues research interests related to the surface chemistry of materials. This research team is interested in the importance of surface chemistry in a variety of systems, which include the synthesis of nanoscale materials, the observed properties of both bulk and nanoscale materials, and the applications of these materials. These applications include: i) improving catalysis in fuel cells; ii) directing the assembly of designer materials; iii) managing chemical instabilities such as corrosion; and iv) controlling the delivery and release of therapeutics.

Jonathan Veinot

The research interests of the Veinot Group focus on the synthesis, properties, and applications of “functional” materials. An underlying theme pervading all our research is: “How can our understanding of chemistry better our comprehension, and facilitate the application of the materials we study?”
